Fri, 04 Dec 2009 01:52:40 -0800 Compare and Contrast http://blog.ahoyo.com/compare-and-contrast-9 http://blog.ahoyo.com/compare-and-contrast-9 One of the things that really excites us about Ahoyo is the multiplatform nature of the framework, using one piece of configuration you can deploy software to multiple devices and platforms?

Take for example jQuery Heroes, the application was configured in 15 minutes, built in 5, deployed to the android market place in another 5 minutes, deployed to the app store review process 10 minutes later, in the Android Market place instantly............ two weeks later approved by Apple and in the AppStore.  The applications are functionally equivalent and present the users with the exact same data and experience.  We are pretty stoked with the possibilities this presents.

Do you want a Facebook App to complement your iPhone and Android apps?  Cool, because we can do that too.

Sun, 29 Nov 2009 01:33:53 -0800 Updated Android Application: Photoshop Tutorials http://blog.ahoyo.com/updated-android-application-photoshop-tutoria http://blog.ahoyo.com/updated-android-application-photoshop-tutoria

We are constantly updating the core Ahoyo MAF (Mobile Application Framework).  Each application that is built with the MAF is eligible to use the new updates, with that in mind, we have just released an update to Photoshop Tutorials.

Photoshop Tutorials was one of the first applications that we released, the updates make the UI a little more friendly, including icons in the headers, a "more" tab and visibility off all Application level messages.  We have also updated the image caching framework so the application is a little more responsive.

The great thing about the Ahoyo MAF is that this UI is configurable at run-time so we can make changes to the layout, images and color schemes and you won't have to update your applications.

Attached to this post is a screen shot of the updated UI.  As more people migrate from android 1.5 phones to 1.6 and then 2.0 we will be updating the framework to take advantage of these devices.

Wed, 25 Nov 2009 11:22:00 -0800 Why Ahoyo? http://blog.ahoyo.com/why-ahoyo http://blog.ahoyo.com/why-ahoyo
What we know as "the web" is constantly evolving.  In recent times we have seen the emergence of blogging, then videos and now micro-blogging.  Whilst the popularity of each of these types of services varies over-time (for too many reasons to list), each has one common facet: they allow instant publication.

It is hard to say if the demand for instant publication is driven through the demand for instant consumption of information, or consumption of data is driven by data being available immediately.  Regardless of which comes first, consumption of data can be categorised into two distinct groups: near real-time and everything after that (next hour, next day, 2 months later, 3 years ago).

Applications built through the Ahoyo framework can take advantage of these Real-time streams of data.  The Ahoyo infrastructure is pubsubhubbub aware (if you don't know what pubsubhubbub is - think of it as "don't contact us, we will contact you.", that is as soon as data is available from a source we will be told about it rather than have us check every 20 minutes).

Now that data is becoming available in near real-time, wouldn't it be nice if you could create and deploy your application to smart-phones in nearly the same amount of time that it takes for the data to be published?. Thats where we come in, we can build and deploy* your applications at super quick speed.

*Apple have approximately two week turn-around time for approving applications.  Apps built for the Android marketplace can be deployed nearly instantly.

Tue, 24 Nov 2009 01:59:35 -0800 What is Ahoyo? http://blog.ahoyo.com/what-is-ahoyo http://blog.ahoyo.com/what-is-ahoyo
Ahoyo is a team of developers: Paul Kinlan and Jon Paul Davies, Ahoyo is a turnkey smartphone solution supporting rapid application development and deployment on the iPhone and the Android smartphones.

There are a lot of turnkey solutions already in the market place, some providing applications just for the iPhone, some for a variety of smartphone clients, most with their own custom CMS systems.  With this in mind, we are focusing on a slightly different niche.  Our systems aggregate and summarise your data from your systems that produce the content, there is no need (although we have one) for a CMS system; there is no need to double publish your data.
